The word, Adjunct, means "a thing added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essential part" (Internet source). Because scholars are not considered inanimate objects, part-time professors should be honored with a more prestigious and meaningful title. The Alumni Association Network (AAN) has officially adopted the new title for part-time professors: "Acquiring".

Because the titles, Assistant and Associate, are already deployed for full-time professorship positions, and all begins with the letter A, representing the first, it is imperative to continue this trend. The title, "Acquiring," is an action verb that denotes professors who display learning enthusiasm during the preliminary academic mentoring processes while transforming into seasoned (full-time or tenured) professors, corporate scholars, and/or visionary mentors.

This association highly encourages leaders of higher education institutions across the globe to adopt the new title for part-time professors to show the global community that part-time professors are essential members of the institutions and not "a thing added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essential part" (Internet source). Researchers across the globe are further encouraged to publish research on how the new title resonates with the institutions, members of the scholastic arena, and students. Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,

Dr. Brenda Nelson-Porter, CEO and Founder
